He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
Colossians 1:17, 18 (NIV)
God is not only the creator of the world, but he also sustains the world. In him, everything is held together, protected and presented from disintegrating into chaos. Because Christ sustains all life, none of us is independent from him. We are all his servants who must daily trust him for protecting us, caring for us and sustaining us.
Christ is the ‘firstborn from among the dead‘. Jesus was raised from death, and his ressurrection proves his lordship over the material world. All who trust in CHrist will also deafeat death and rise again to live eternally with him. Because of Christ death on the cross, he has been exalted and elevated to the status that was rightfully his. Because Christ is spiritually supreme in the universe, surely we should give him first place in ALL our thoughts and activities.
And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.
Revelation 1:5 (NIV)
We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
1 Thessalonians 4:14 (NIV)
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the Glory of God the father.
Philippians 2:9-11 (NIV)
All great scriptures explaining why Christ is king of kings and Lord of Lords. Someone of Christ’s omnipotence should be respected, obeyed and somewhat feared. There shouldn’t be no time of day where one’s mind goes without thinking and referring to Jesus. He should have first priority over everything going on in your mind, a messy, jumbled, unorganized life is a sign that the creator is not present.
So, first thing first….
